![]() There is an enormous amount of Pascal-related features to dig into still spanning stuff like memory compression, positional audio, Ansel, and virtual reality. I'd like this GTX 1080 review to more resemble the beginning of a long and exciting conversation rather than a final verdict. Those cards will have coolers that need to be individually evaluated. Remember, this is for Nvidia's Founder's Edition, not the upcoming partner cards from companies like PNY, Asus, MSI, and EVGA. And that impression is that the GTX 1080 is just a few decibels louder than the excellent GTX 980 under load, and just a touch quieter than the Titan X. I wasn't able to properly evaluate the GTX 1080's noise output in a soundproof setting with a sound meter, but I did use an app that measures dB to at least get a ballpark impression. There's some nice headroom here giving patient overclockers plenty of free performance, but I'm eager to see what a liquid-cooled GTX 1080 variant can do. This resulted in roughly 11% - 15% better performance across several titles which can often tip the framerate scales over 60fps at 4K resolution. I got the GTX 1080 up to 2.1GHz for a few seconds although it throttled slightly. No overclocked parts to skew the results. ![]() It's also important to note that all cards in this review were retested using these drivers. Additionally, all cards are either reference cards or using baseline clock speeds.
